King of the Trails Off-Road Running Series#1 - Round Valley 5k and 10 Mile Trail Run
Saturday April 3, 2004
10:00AM (5k) 11:00AM (10mi.)
Round Valley Reservoir - Beach Parking Lot
Lebanon, NJ
This is one butt-ugly series..: The first and perhaps the toughest race of the 10 race statewide trail running series. The short course (5k) will start at 10:00AM, the long course (10mi.) will start at 11:00AM. Runners will scale Toboggan Hill in the first 5 minutes of the race. Short course runners will scale that hill plus have another to contend with. I couldn't count the number of hills for the long course runners. Let's just say it's a lot. Rocks and some deadfall will invite both courses. We will have the ugliest T-shirts, stupid looking awards, and food not meant for human consumption for the runners. Hill Scale is 9 out of 10 (extremely hilly) and the Contour Scale is 8 out of 10 (very rocky). Details of the Series as well as the directions to the race are on www.sportingx.com
Series Scoring and Awards: Each race will be used to determine the King and Queen of the Trails at the end of the Series. Series scoring will be posted on www.sportingx.com the last week of March. The "coronation" that Queen Elizabeth would gasp at will happen after the last race of the series.
Join the DREGS Club!: If you are an athlete who loves: Bruising trail runs, tough triathlons/duathlons, killer off-road triathlons/duathlons, real hilly marathons, insane off-road marathons, quad busting hill climbs, sleep deprived adventure races, dirty mountain bike races, and other races that pose an extreme challenge, then the DREGS is the club for you! Become one of our charter members. Please contact "Iron" Pete Priolo at ironpete@aol.com or (908) 229-9687. FAST AND SLOW RACERS ARE WELCOME. The only requirement is that you have a great sense of adventure!
Directions: I-78 Exit to Rt. 639 South (Cokesbury Rd). You'll hit Rt. 22 almost instantly. Make right onto Rt.22 West. Go up hill. You will see a sign for Round Valley Recreation Area. Take jughandle and wait an eternity for the traffic light to finally turn green, allowing you to cross Rt. 22 onto Lebanon/Stanton Rd. Go 1.5 miles to Park Entrance on Left. Follow signs to Beach and park in the Beach parking lot. Registration will be on "right" side of beach when looking at the reservoir itself.
