American Cancer Society Run For Dad
Sunday June 15, 2008
9:00 AM
Mercer County Park
West Windsor, NJ
Who Benefits?: Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 234,460 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2007. About 27,350 men will die of this disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, second only to lung cancer. While 1 man in 6 will get prostate cancer during his lifetime, only 1 man in 34 will die of this disease. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down. And the disease is being found earlier as well.

The sixth annual RUN FOR DAD is a community and family event of the American Cancer Society designed to raise awareness about prostate cancer in men and to highlight the importance of screening and early detection. The event is managed by a small group of prostate cancer survivors, concerned health care professionals and other community and corporate activists. All proceeds go to support prostate cancer research projects and other prostate cancer awareness activities.

The 2007 event drew more than 1000 participants including some 40 prostate cancer survivors and more than 100 children. Extensive press coverage brought the importance of prostate health to thousands of other people. Proceeds from the event resulted in a $25,000 grant to support a prostate cancer research project.

RUN FOR DAD ’08 will be held Father’s Day, June 15, 2008 in beautiful Mercer County Park in West Windsor, New Jersey. Registration begins at 7:30 AM with the run and walk starting at 9:00 AM. While there is a 5K run on a USATF certified, traffic free course, the event also includes a 2-mile walk on a park road and paved trails as well as short races for kids. Random prize drawings, special goodies for kids and summer snacks combine to make RUN FOR DAD 2008 a positive and fun way to honor our fathers.
